BookEasy Widens Its Net
March 22, 1998 -- Bookpoint, Marston Book Services and
Distributor of the Year Littlehampton Book Services will all go live on BookEasy during
the next three months, bringing to five the number of distributors on the global book
trade Internet service. Macmillan Distribution and Exel Logistics have been live since the
end of 1997. The addition of TeleOrdering at the beginning of March added another
important dimension to BookEasy services.
The recent KPMG report, Unlocking the Supply
Chains Hidden Prize, cited the widespread increase of electronic commerce at
the head of a basket of measures it estimates could save the industry of £150 million a
year. The BookEasy self service Internet enquiry and order system (www.bookeasy.com) is
already starting to revolutionise the relationship between booksellers and their suppliers
and the current expansion will extend the practical usefulness of the site for booksellers
in the UK and overseas.
BookEasy allows booksellers to answer routine queries about
the price and availability, updated daily, on the central BookEasy site, as well as to
check the status of their orders and dues, and to place new orders 7 days a week, 24 hours
a day. As more distributors and publishers join the network, booksellers will find that
BookEasy can help them manage their businesses more efficiently by timing their enquiries
to suit their own needs and schedules, wherever they are in the world, and no matter what
time zone they are in.
BookEasy was developed by VISTA Computer Services in
partnership with Whitaker as service providers, and in co-operation with Macmillan
Distribution, Exel Logistics and Bookpoint. |
